Profile of RRC: RRC Kolkata was established in the year 2003. The RRC is located in the heart of the city Kolkata, which is a transit point to all the Eastern and the North Eastern States . The CIF team comprises of 5 qualified and experienced development professionals. Over the years it has established a sound network with various state Govt. and other resource organizations.
Uniqueness of the region: The eastern region is unique in various parameters. Some of them are mentioned below-
In this region CL is operating in 8 states, having 6 different languages and many other dialects.
In the geographical parameter, CHILDLINE caters to regions ranging from the mountain and hilly terrain of NE to the seashores in Orissa to the dry and rugged climate of Jharkhand to densely forest land of Sundarban .
The problem scenario also varies from place to place.
This region is characterized by extreme poverty. Thus child labor and migration related problems are very prominent.
According to Government data, this region also has the highest number of Child Trafficking cases.
Insurgency problems and inadequate facilities for communication in the NE region have aggravated the problem scenario. It also happens to be a disaster prone zone where earthquake and super cyclones are a regular phenomena.
