Medical camp for community children in Dahisar, Mumbai

The L & T Medical Van drove along the inroads of Dahisar, Mumbai to park itself and begin the first of its annual medical camps with CHILDLINE's community children.

Intrigued children gathered around the community room wondering why there was a Van parked near the local chai wala and what it was here for. Mothers began walking towards the community room with their children, some exceedingly certain of the problems their children had, some skeptical of medical treatment and some open minded to curing their children.

The efficient and eloquent medical team from L & T had everything very well organized. The doctor focused on counseling the parents and children and providing them the best possible prescriptions for various illnesses faced by their children, while the nurse and her assistant dispensed free medicines to the families based on the prescriptions.

The essence of the medical camp tie-up between L & T and CHILDLINE lies in the fact that the same children who were treated by the doctor will meet the doctor once again after a gap of three months. The objective remains clear- free medical service for children who don't have access to quality care and a well designed programme to ensure the child is given the best possible treatment over a sustained period of time.

The camp saw a huge turnout and resulted in a more educated community. This event was the beginning to a series of medical camps for children, with the purpose of educating them on basic health/sanitation/medical issues and providing them access to medical care.
