CHILDLINEs across the country carried out various events and activities following the commemoration of World Day against Child labour on June 12, 2011.

Did you know as per 2010 census, 11% of India's work forces are Children. That means 1 in every 10 working people is a child! A quarter century has passed since the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act was introduced in the country, but India continues to be home to the largest number of working children in the world.

Awareness rally
CHILDLINE Kanpur organised an awareness rally against child labour in connection with the World Anti Child Labour Day. Hundreds of children across the city participated in the event.

Special programme for children

On 12th June 2011, CHILDLINE Burdwan celebrated Anti Child Labour Day in collaboration with the National Child Labour Project team. More than 100 children from 4 Child Labour Centres participated in this occasion. Mr. S. Konar Director NCLP, Mr. Saikat L.R, Mr.Rudrendu Ghosh Sub-centre (CHILDLINE) coordinator and District Coordinator CHILDLINE Burdwan were present at this occasion. All the team members of collaborative organization including the counselor and 2 team members of Katwa Sub-Centre (CHILDLINE) participated as volunteers.

Music for a cause

Joining hands with the Song and Drama division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, CHILDLINE Trichy staged short shows at six vantage points across the city. The cultural troupe members performed at the Tiruchi railway junction. The performance highlighted the hardships children are subjected to in the name of child labour and stressed on the fact that the public could play a crucial role in eradicating the malaise of child labour by contacting CHILDLINE 1098.

CHILDLINE Trichy rescued 10 child labourers
CHILDLINE Trichy conducted an anti child labour rescue drive on June 13, 2011. 10 child laboures employed in shops were rescued by CHILDLINE Trichy along with the Anti Human Trafficking Unit. The drive was held at Chathiram bus stand and NSB Road area in Trichy. The children were from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh employed in menial jobs by traffickers who forced the children to sell cotton candy, kerchiefs etc. CHILDLINE lodged an FIR against the trafficker and he was arrested. The Children were provided with immediate care and protection and produced before the Child Welfare Committee members on June 14, 2011.

Awareness session on evils of Child Labour
CHILDLINE Eluru in collaboration with Rajiv Vidya Mission, District Legal Cell Authority and Forum for Child Rights, Child Welfare Committee, and Asha Kiranam observed Anti Child Labour day discussing the evils of child labour.

CHILDLINE Kanchipuram organised a CHILDLINE rally on 11th June 2011 at Kanchipuram.

Special awareness campaign

The drive was to ensure that no child worked.
CHILDLINE Ahmednagar launched a special awareness campaign against child labour in order to impart education to them and mark World day against child labour. The CHILDLINE team conducted an awareness programme at Bust stands, hotels, Dhabbas and other public places across the city. The CHILDLINE team along with the children and volunteers carried banners, placards, posters with a message to stop child labour and to create awareness on evils of child labour.

Awareness programme for Children

65 children from various schools in the city participated in the awareness programme organised by CHILDLINE Gwalior to mark Anti-Child Labour Day. CHILDLINE team put up standees and distributed pamphlets, brochures and talked about the CHILDLINE service to general public. They urged them to call 1098, if they saw a child in distress.

Together against Child Labour

A concert was organized for 'World Day against Child Labour with the theme of 'Together for children'. The event saw a huge turnout at DDSC Stadium Dimapur.
T. Saku Aier, Parliamentary Secretary, Housing, Labour and Employment speaking on behalf of the Labour Department said, "World Day against Child Labour came about due to human greed, and as a result of which many children have been exploited all over the world and deprived of growing in a decent environment."

CHILDLINE Berhampur along with DLSA explore ways to end child labour

CHILDLINE Berhampur in association with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganjam organized a meeting to discuss various possible ways to prevent child labour on the occasion of World Anti-Child Labour Day. Several judicial officers, advocates, educationists, labour officers and child right activists attended the meeting.
?"Poor Financial Condition often compels kids to work as child laborers. Their families should be included in the BPL category and should get the benefits of the government sponsored programs," said Sudhir Sabat, Director, and CHILDLINE Berhampur.

Rally on Child Labour

CHILDLINE Kanchipuram organised a rally to mark Anti Child Labour Day. Participants dressed up like devils and enacted the evils of child labourer.

Interview on Suriyan FM 93.5

Suriyan FM 93.5 ran a child labor campaign to create awareness on the evils of child labour on June 12, 2011. Jaya Sophia from SRRC, CIF was interviewed. She talked about CHILDLINE 1098, activities and other initiatives.
