Going an extra mile for CHILDLINE!

The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, 2006 was held in Mumbai on January 15, 2006. Over 20,000 people ran in the Marathon, Half Marathon and the 7 km Dream Run to raise funds from colleagues, friends and family for the charity they chose to run for.
However, the marathon at CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) began four weeks before the real event in January 2006, when the Awareness & Advocacy team first woke up to the then upcoming Mumbai Marathon. Almost everybody at CIF was roped in to raise pledges for CHILDLINE. An introductory letter explaining how the Mumbai Marathon operated for charities was prepared and sent, calls were made to corporates and individuals (mostly personal contacts of CIF members), prospective Dream Team runners were identified and contacted and the website had an added visual with the necessary information.

All the efforts and energy put into the Marathon paid off- and rather well at that- CHILDLINE received an overwhelming response from 9 corporates, namely:

• Bank of America,
• General Insurance Corporation of India,
• HDFC,
• Mphasis
• Software & Services (India) Pvt. Ltd.,
• Sanofi Aventis,
• Star India Pvt. Ltd.,
• Reliance Industries Ltd.,
• Tata AIG General Insurance Company Ltd. & Tata Teleservices Ltd,

We also had 5 Dream Team runners who had committed a lakh each towards the cause:

• Mr Nawshir Mirza,
• Mr Ashish Kacholia,
• Mr Atul Sud,
• Mrs Neeta
• Dharnidharkara and
• Mr Madhu Sudhan.

There were several Pleaders, United runners running for CHILDLINE including several members from CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF). Added to this, a fair enough acknowledgment for the collective efforts of CIF members was, an award from PROCAM International for the second highest funds raised by an NGO!

This will go some way in supporting the yawning gaps that CHILDLINE has in funding.
