Every year on 12th June governments, society and organizations focus their attention towards emphasizing on the plight of child labourers all over the world and taking efforts to eliminate the menace of child labour altogether. World Day Against Child Labour was incepted by The International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2002 to motivate everyone to fight against child labour and to make people conscious of the millions of children who work as paid or unpaid labourers and who are very vulnerable to exploitation.

CHILDLINEs all over India has unceasingly observed this day through signature campaings, distributing pamhplets, street shows etc to alert people on the issue and strengthen them to raise their voice and Say No to Child Labour!


CHILDLINE Betul organized a workshop on Child Labour at the Government Quarter Colony. The participants for this workshop were Mr. S. R. Sedane, District Labor Office, Mr. Raghvendra Mani, DCPO, Mr. YogeshVerma from the DWCD, and Mr. S.K. Bamne from the District Police, CWC Members and participants from various NGOs. The workshop focused on the ill effects of employing children and how education is more important.


CHILDLINE Ahmednagar along with the Labour Department organized a rally with 300 slum children. The District Collector of Ahmednagar, Mr. Anil Kawade was present as the chief guest and inaugurated the rally which was flagged off from the collector’s office. The children were also given notebooks and pens and were encouraged to become responsible citizens of the country through education.


CHILDLINE Goa organized a programme at Institute Piedade, Panjim where Mr. Chandan Shetgaonkar the Labour Inspector from the Labour Commission of Panjim was the chief guest. The programme was conducted in coordination with JCI Santa Inez Panjim with around 50 participants. The chief guest stressed on the need to protect children at their tender age and CHILDLINE Goa on their part explained how they constantly check on all establishments, factories and industries to prevent children from being employed and exploited in such places. During the discussion that followed the participants felt that the government should recognize domestic labour and it should be made mandatory for all employers to register them with the department. The NGOs working with migrant workers quorum requested the help of CHILDLINE to do so.


CHILDLINE Surat collaborated with Sulochana Trust, Bal Jigar Trust, Shree Valand Yuvashakti Yuvak Mandal, the Labour Dept and the DCPU to hold a rally with 300 children. The Deputy Labour Commissioner along with his team and the DCPU were also a part of this rally. An enrolment and scholarship program for 800 children was also conducted. Books with 1098 stickers were distributed among the children and information on services provided by CHILDLINE was shared with them and their parents.

CHILDLINE Indore in a joint venture with the WCD organized a rally and poster exhibition at the collector’s office. Participating in the event were District Administration Officers, police persons, media & social work students. The rally saw around 2000 participants which started from Badwali Chauki and ended at Rajbada Square covering the most child-labour prone areas.


CHILDLINE Nagapattinam in coordination with the District Child Protection Unit and District Administration conducted a rally insisting to enrol all eligible children in schools. More than 1000 school children participated in the rally and it was flagged off by the District Collector. The Municipal Chairman and Officials from the Education Department also participated and made the event successful.

The District Collector issued a notice in the public bus stands and requested the public to call up 1098 if they come across any child labourer. A 1098 board was put up at the Women’s Police Station which is located next to the bus stand. The RTO pasted 1098 stickers as well on government and private buses and autos to create mass awareness.

On 12th June 2014, CHILDLINE Puducherry observed World Day Against Child Labour with 100 Community Service Scheme students. A campaign was organised near the new bus stand. Children dressed themselves as child labourers covered their eyes with red ribbons, raised slogans against employing children at work and took the pledge against child labour to raise awareness among common masses.

CHILDLINE Trivandrum & Kerala Child Rights Observatory jointly observed World Day Against Child Labour. The inaugural function was organised at the Manacaud Girls High School. Posters related to child protection prepared by the Social Justice Department were released by the school children during the assembly. A pledge against child labour was also taken by 1500 children. The valedictory function of the programme was organised at St Antonys High School, Valiyathura. An awareness programme was also organised for the students in which a total of 100 children participated. Sessions on child rights, child abuse, services of CHILDLINE, and the importance of World Day Against Child Labour were also initiated.


CHILDLINE Mandla conducted group activities starting with awareness generation on Child Labour among passengers in buses travelling to Jabalpur, Nagpur, Sheoni, Dindori, Niwas and targeted around 50-60 buses. A group outreach was conducted at Hanumanji ward with the participation of around 50 children, Anganwadi helpers, teachers, local social workers and families living in the neighbourhood.


CHILDLINE Ujjain on the occasion of World Day against Child Labour organised a rally and signature campaign against child labour. Shopkeepers, coolies, auto drivers and several onlookers came out in large numbers to show their support. More than 250 people supported the campaign through their signature.

On this occasion CHILDLINE Lucknow organised a rally in the city with social workers, CHILDLINE volunteers and students of various schools. At the end of the rally CHILDLINE Lucknow organised a street play on Child Labour. In continuation CHILDLINE Lucknow also organised a seminar on the issue at Assistant Labour Commissioner’s Office with the Labour department, civil society organization, hotel and shop owners and the school students.
