CHILDLINE Calicut conducted a workshop to sensitise Junior Public Health Nurses about child sexual abuse at Hotel Nalanda, Calicut. It saw participation of 60 Junior Public Health Nurses from medical department across the city. Dr Appunni, Additional District Medical Officer, Calicut inaugurated workshop. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Appunni pointed out that Child abuse is a complex phenomenon with multiple causes. Understanding the causes of abuse is crucial to addressing the problem of child abuse.
"With a widespread increase in the cases of child sexual abuse, this workshop is an attempt to sensitise Nurses about the psychological, legal and medical aspects related to child sexual abuse, as they are the one who deal with such cases on a daily basis," said Mr. Muhammadali. M.P, City Coordinator CHILDLINE Calicut.
Topics discussed at the workshop were the legal, medical, psychological and social aspects of dealing with victims and offenders. The workshop was conducted by the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development in collaboration with the CHILDLINE India foundation (CIF).
