1. Duggi receives an award from the President
The June 2005 edition of 'Hello CHILDLINE' carried the story of young tribal girl child, called Duggi, who had defied age-old
traditions, the child had run away from home when her family tried to get her married to a 50-year-old man. She wandered
alone in a nearby jungle for 7 days, eating wild fruits and roots to satiate her hunger until she remembered an aunt who
had supported her on an earlier occasion. The child contacted the aunt who then filed an FIR at the local police station.
CHILDLINE Cuttack received a call from the police station seeking help for the child. She has since been staying in a CHILDLINE
support organization's shelter home. The guilty members of her family and the 50-year-old man are now behind bars.
We are proud to inform you that this courageous young girl, all of 14 now received the bravery award from the President
of India on the 26th January 2006. Duggi was also interviewed by CNN
